Dr. Gheorghiu is an Associate of Golder Associats Inc, with extensive experience
in theoertical and practical aspects of fractured rock hydrogeology for environmental
projects. Dr. Gheorghiu is responsible for management and coordination of geological,
hydrogeological, and geophysical investigations for environmental and civil
engineering projects including contaminant investigations, and municipal landfill
design projects.
Dr. Gheorghiu's major activities over the past 20 years have included groundwater
flow and solute transport modeling using computer codes FLOWPATH, MODFLOW, MODPATH
and FTWORK, for contaminant plume characterization, civil engineering projects
and remedial system design including extraction/reinjection system design, cut-off
wall design and hydraulic containment of NAPL contaminated sites; Probabilistic
assessment of monitoring system efficiency; Probabilistic assessment and Monte
Carlo simulations of groundwater flow and contaminant migration rates; Designing,
conducting and analyzing various aquifer tests in porous and fractured media
such as: step-drawdown tests, constant rate pumping tests, withdrawal/injection
or pulse tests using straddle packer assembly, constant rate or constant head
pump-in tests, etc.; Defining nature and extent of contaminant plumes, including
DNAPL and LNAPL plumes, using geologic, hydrogeologic, geochemical, and geophysical
data at industrial and landfill sites; Integration of regional and site geology/hydrogeology
based on drilling, trenching, geologic mapping and aerial photographs; Writing
expert witness reports; Geotechnical and hydrogeologic assessments for potential
landfill sites including baseline hydrogeologic conditions for Phase I and Phase
II permit application.
